Mind and body are two pieces of a single soul, and there is no denying this proposition. When you look out for extensive cleaning for your mental arena, you need to do the same for your body. A healthy mind resides in a healthy body, and you must be familiar with the saying.

I would go a step further and say that you NEED a healthy body.

Imagine how much down in the dumps you felt when you were sick last time, or there was some ailment in your body. You need to take care of yourself the best possible way you can.

I am not suggesting you transform into a supermodel overnight but what I am suggesting is be aware of your health and execute what you can under your power to make yourself healthy today.

You would be surprised by how much you can accomplish regarding health by changing minor habits that you may not be even aware of.

We all are busy and have these tight time constraints, but your body wouldn’t accept any excuses in this department. I would list a few habits that many other colleagues and I have changed over time that benefited us tremendously. You can choose to practice a few of those and see the benefits for yourself.

Another advice would be to evaluate your entire day, step by step in terms of eating habits and exercise.

It’s as simple as this-

Woke up at 7:00 am and dashed for work at 7:45 am with my coffee. Had a few biscuits at around noon and heavy lunch with clients at 2:30 pm. Took the elevator as I was running late for my evening meeting. Drank lots of coffee/tea throughout the day with two sugars each time. Went out with some friends/family after work, had my dinner and a few drinks before crashing at around midnight.

Now be your own nutritionist, you know what’s healthy and what’s not. You will know yourself more than any other person would so try and make some small changes to your current routine.

You could start here like:

I would take the stairs.

Cut the sugar in my coffee completely.

Prepare a sandwich for me a night before, for breakfast.

These small changes require minimum or no effort from your side. Most of the times you are doing many unhealthy things unconsciously and don’t even realize it until it’s too late. So start taking care of yourself.

Here are a few habits that we changed in our day to day lives (It may or may not apply to you directly):

Walking from work in the evenings: A friend of mine was an exchange student doing an internship and didn’t own a car. It was a 30-35 minute walk between his home and workplace. He decided to walk home after his work ended at around 6 p.m. in the evening. Not only he incorporated 30 minutes cardio but also saved some cab money.

  • Taking the stairs wherever I can.

  • Preparing healthy lunches beforehand.

  • Substituting sugary snacks with fruits.

  • Downloading applications to remind me to drink water.

  • Switching a few coffee cups to green tea.

These alternatives may not look revolutionizing or life transforming, but you would be surprised at how well they work! Just switching up my water intake and switching to fruits, I felt more energized and active throughout the day.

Take what works for you and always keep your body healthy. You are the first person responsible for yourself, take your primary responsibility seriously!

Many of my friends and colleagues have asked me to combine such tips and tricks which cost zero dollars but improve health tremendously.
