Has anyone ever called you too fat, too thin, too ugly or your ___ part of your body is not up to the mark? Have you told these things to anyone else?
Be it celebrities or your average Joe, in today's perfect photoshop world, everyone has to face body shaming at some point. And this article tells you how to deal with it.
First of all, if you have ever felt bad because of such a remark (you are human, it's okay to feel bad..), there are a few facts you should know,
Approximately 90% of men and women are insecure about something related to their body.
Such comments could lead to chronic depression.
More than half of the population feels the need to fit in a "perfect body image."
Body Shaming can also lead to eating disorders, low self-esteem and in chronic cases suicidal thoughts.
After reading these few facts, you can understand why is this a problem.
This problem is a grave one but often swept under the rug.
The too thin XYZ brand models will always be considered sexy.
The ABC Secret Fashion Show models are the perfect figure.
These facts are embedded in our minds by all forms of media and communication.
(No disrespect to them as it's their profession)
Exactly it's their profession!
If you are a student, nurse, doctor, lawyer, software engineer, writer, worker or whatever, you will not find the time or equipment or trainers to work out 4 hours a day to fit in the mold of this media created body!
What you can do is make healthy choices and take care of your body to remain disease free.
But most people judge themselves by a photoshopped model and think how bad their stomach, nose, chin, eyes etc is!
If they are confident, others will judge them and body shame them.
But tell us one thing...
Marlyn Monroe is considered as an eternal icon with curves, do you think if she existed in today's world, she would be deemed fat? (Think about it, in this world where most fashion houses don't work with anyone more than a size 2)
When did we become so fake?
Who created this ideal body type? Media? Why should it dictate your life?
Why should we feel good or bad about ourselves based on the amount of food we eat?
Again there is a difference in being healthy and chasing after a computer generated image.
After realizing all these facts let's see how it can be handled it effectively.
